School Schedule: Our first bell rings at 8:20 and class begins at 8:25. If it is a late start, school begins at 9:20. Please get your children to school on time. Their day is much more successful when they start on a good note! School is dismissed at 3:30. Please be on time picking your children up from school. If you do not arrive by 3:40, the children will be walked to the office for you to pick them up. Your child must be picked up by an adult listed on the attached form for leaving school. Should there be a change in plan for pick up, an email/note/call must be received prior to pick up. Please understand that I have only your child’s safety in mind. Students should not arrive to school early as there is no supervision for them at that time (unless your child attends latch-key or breakfast).
Snack: Each day your children will be given a snack time. Please pack a snack that is healthy, nut-free, and can be eaten without refrigeration or utensils. I welcome your child to bring a water bottle into our classroom, but only water is permitted. Please ensure it is one they can open/close individually and doesn’t ‘sweat’, as in drip on the desk and school materials. I am sending home a healthy nut-free snack note for your convenience. t the bottom of this page is a copy of it. Thank you for following these guidelines!
Lunchtime: This year second grade will have lunch and recess from 11:30-12:18. Please note that children order lunch for the following day. Second grade is a year for students to be responsible for their own decisions, which means they will need to remember and inform you if they have ordered an A or B lunch option for the following day. I understand that there will be mistakes made the first few weeks, but my hope is that with your support, your children will be able to handle this challenge. You may find it easier to circle the choices for the month and return it to keep at school for your child to reference when ordering with all the hustle and bustle of their busy morning.
Homework: Your children have a designated homework folder. It should go back and forth each day as a tool to keep your children organized and also serves as a communication tool from me to you. This folder is a great way to send written notes to me and the children will use it to bring information home to you. Please make sure to check this folder daily and discuss any important homework/happenings/grades with your child.
Birthdays: In order to celebrate your child’s birthday and a love for reading, students may bring in a new or gently used book to donate to our classroom library. A sticker with your child’s name and birthday will be placed inside the book. As part of their in class celebration, the class will make them a book, give a crown, sing, and treat them extra special on this day. This book can be sent in on or near your child’s birthday. If you have any questions or concerns please feel free to email me. Please do not send birthday treats for the class because they are prohibited by school rules due to allergies.
Star Student: Each week we will have a star student. While your child is star student, each day will consist of an event or activity to honor him/her. You will receive a schedule and more detailed information regarding our star student process on curriculum night.
